Childfund International

Since 1938, ChildFund International has helped deprived, excluded and vulnerable children in poverty to have the capacity to improve their own lives and bring lasting, positive change to their communities.  ChildFund actively promotes societies whose individuals and institutions participate in valuing, protecting and advancing the worth and rights of children and youth.

ChildFund assists over 18.2million children and families in 30 countries worldwide through integrated, community-based programming in education, health and nutrition, microenterprise development, early childhood development, HIV/AIDS, psychosocial assistance and protection.   ChildFund makes a 12- to 15-year commitment to children and youth in communities served.  Our distinctive life stage approach focuses on working with children throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, seeking the specific program outcomes of:    1) improved health and security of infants, children, and mothers;  2) increased access and better educated and confident children; and, 3) skilled and involved youth.   Our community-led programs are designed and implemented in collaboration with children, youth, families, and local organizations within the community.  ChildFund provides support to community-based partners to both effectively deliver services and strategically promote the protection and development of deprived, excluded and vulnerable children and youth.

ChildFund’s youth programming assists youth with the critical transition to adulthood and promotes integrated programs that focus on 3 core elements:

  • Youth Civic Engagement and Leadership - Supporting youth to build leadership and citizenship skills, act collectively for social change and promotion of youth-inclusive communities
  • Youth Friendly Reproductive Health Services and Education – Access to information and services, building supportive families and communities and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse
  • Livelihood Education and Preparation - Training to acquire the skills needed to enter the workforce, building healthy and protective work environments and acquisition of life skills with psycho-social support
