Our Story

In 2009 a group of leading youth development organizations based in Washington, DC met to discuss key challenges facing the youth development sector. The challenges include the need for greater coordination, how to effectively capture and disseminate best practices and lessons from our work, and how to more effectively advocate for investments in young people. Begun as a volunteer network aimed at providing a forum for youth practitioners, today the Alliance for International Youth Development (AIYD)  is a formal coalition based at its partner InterAction. AIYD represents a diverse group of implementing organizations and foundations, large and small, dedicated to advancing the field of international youth development. AIYD is member-funded through annual dues, and member-driven through working groups, learning and advocacy events, and its steering committee.
